Activity of TC in Renewable Energy
Эта страница на русском здесьRenewable Energy is one of the important options for the future energy industry. It is expected that oil supply can be only ensured for the next couple decades; though there are significant resources of gas and coal in the world, these sources also are finite. In this situation it is very important to create and elaborate of new non-finite renewable energy (RE) sources.
In Europe, development of RE technologies is also stimulated by increasing energy imports, and RE sources are considered as important factor for secure energy supply of Europe. That’s why we can see significant increase in RE application in EU last decades.
Russia has also vast RE resources. Also, there are advanced technologies in this field in Russia. However, the applications of these technologies are still few in number.
RE Technologies transfer is issue of mutual interest of EU and Russia. Many RE technologies in Europe reached the stage of commercial application. Determining of technologies which can be used in Russia and development of joint projects in RE field is one of the main areas of the TC activity.
TC Priority Areas & Technologies
The Technology Centre focuses on promoting clean RE technologies for generating electricity and heat supply. These technologies are suitable mostly for decentralized energy supply; however, lately, new technologies appeared that can be used as grid connected applications.
Emphasis is given on the following priority areas and technologies:
1. Promotion of new technologies in the field of renewable energy. Identification and facilitation of RE projects and support for their development and realization in the following fields:
- Small and micro hydro power plants
- Biomass utilization
- Wind energy utilization
- Solar energy (photovoltaic and solar thermal) utilization
- Geothermal energy utilization
- Mechanisms of stimulation of RE application
- Policy for promoting RE technologies in Russia
3. Promotional activities
- Dissemination of information about RE technologies
- RE resources potential assessment
In view of the above priority areas for the RE sector, the Technology Centre carries out activities that encourage the exchange and discussion of information as well as providing support in investment attraction for projects of common interest.
For example, several round-table discussions have been organized on such topics as:
- Policy and legislation for promoting RE technologies application in Russia
- Integration of RE and energy efficiency technologies in buildings
- Utilisation of biomass energy in Russia
- Small hydro development in Russia
More information on both past and upcoming events can be found in the events section of this website.
Identification of projects of common interest is envisaged as one of the main objectives of the round-tables organised by the Technology Centre as well as the support in attracting investment. For the RE sector, the following projects has been identified for TC support:
- Construction of small hydro power plan in North Ossetia.
- Geothermal energy project in mining cities of Russia
Co-operation & Partnerships in Russia
Co-operation has been established with the key actors in Russian RE field in order to support the work of the Technology Centre. Currently, key partners of the Technology Centre in the coal sector include:
- JSC "Nauka", JSC "Geotherm-M", Association of Mining Cities of Russia (geothermal energy)
- MNTO "INSET", Institute Hydroproect, JSC KabBalkEnergo (small hydro)
- RPA [1] Electrosfera (wind energy)
- RPA Mashinostroeniya, (solar thermal)
- Solar Wind Co (photoelectricity)
- National Boienergy Foundation (biomass)
- Other organisations
