Organization for promotion of energy technologies. Activity in 2000 - 2001:

Developing of RE market in 4 CIS countries. Promotion of the EU energy technologies to CIS and Black Sea region

Objectives
To create favorable conditions for RE market development. To help renewable energy equipment manufacturers in Russia and CIS to learn about best European energy technologies experience and to show their achievements on the national and international level exhibitions.

Description of work
This action is intended for creation of favorable conditions for RE market development in CIS countries. It will help renewable energy equipment manufacturers in Russia and CIS to learn about best European energy technologies experience and to show their achievements on the national and international level exhibitions.

  • Creation of database of CIS RE equipment manufacturers;
  • Organization of visits of representatives of Russia/CIS manufacturers to the leading European RE and certification centers
  • Organization of a workshop in Moldova on effective use of energy technologies. The objective of this task is to raise awareness of local energy market actors and decision makers about new and effective EU and CIS energy technologies.
  • Organization of a workshop in Russia on application of renewable energy in biosphere reserves and other protected areas as most sensitive to human impact.

The main objective of these actions was to establish partner relations between European and CIS RE equipment manufacturers and consumers, as well as technologies and experience exchange.

Promotion of Small Hydro Power

Objectives

  • The global objective is the development and refurbishment of SHP in the region in order to reduce CO2 pollution and supply low cost decentralised electricity,
  • An important conclusion of phase 1 was that there was a real need for the development of small hydropower plants in Eastern Europe but that though most of the new regulations welcome foreign investors, there is a lack of appropriate financial tools.
  • The practical objective of phase 2 is to find ways of financing SHP projects in eastern European countries
  • Publication of the wind power for SMEs handbook

Within the bounds of this project there was published handbook for wind power in English.
Intersolarcenter prepared advanced and specialized edition of this handbook in Russian.

Mini desalination plants for small islands and their impact on the bio-remedation techniques

Objectives
The work with organizations that have technologies for obtaining fresh water was continued. The description for the process of obtaining of fresh water from air hureceivedas recieved from one of the leading organizations - Moscow State University. They agreed to take part in the project and ptechnologytechonology at the workshop. However, the workshop isbecausened becouse of the WP Leader. OPET-CIS have proposals how to successfully implement this new technology, especially in Mediterranean region.

"Intersolarcenter" have presented the technology of getting fresh water from air, developed on the Geography chair of MSU.

Assessment of the needs and priorities of the Black Sea energy market and appraisal of the existing energy technologies

Objectives
This action aims to provide reliable and complete information to external investors and/or technology providers, regarding critical points of the energy sector of the Black Sea region targeted countries. The objective of this action is the assessment of the requirements of the Black Sea region energy technology market. In order to achieve this objective contacts with key-persons will be held so that to assess the needs, priorities and problems that they face towards their orientation to clean and efficient technologies.

Description of work
The strategy to be followed in order to achieve the expected results regarding this task includes the following:

  • Review the existing studies and surveys
  • Direct contacts with key-representatives of the energy market actors, including:
  • Municipalities
  • National and regional authorities
  • Energy supply organisations
  • Energy consumers

Furthermore the Centre will appraise the existing energy technologies of the Black Sea region, concentrated mainly to a concrete assessment and evaluation of the existing clean and efficient technologies, including renewables, of the Black Sea region. Areas of high priority will be:

  • Biomass and Waste
  • Geothermal
  • Small Hydros
  • Solar Energy
  • CHP (Combined Heat and Power)

"Intersolarcenter" prepared review of energy situation in bulk of Russian regions and made reference due RES use in this regions.

Promoting Single Turbine Wind Applications to SMEs and other Potential Users

Objectives

  • Encourage the uptake of single installations of both small and large-scale wind turbines, by SMEs such as farmers, and others for both on and off-grid applications - this will ensure that the action has potential amongst many other countries that are involved in the OPET network
  • consolidationsoolidation of the work already done in this area within the UK, Spain, Lithuania, Poland and Ireland, and through programmes such as THERMIE and ALTENER
  • Identifying the small-scale wind market needs in Russia and feeding this information into the project

Utilise the knowledge gained from the review and study tour to produce a loose-leaf handbook, that consolidates the information currently available and the key issues that need to be addressed by potential users - the BWEA and others will be invited to comment/input to this general document Due this project, there was prepared handbook for windpower in English. Renewable energy sources implementation in the tourism sector

Objectives
Requirements of the tourism sector, which usually operates during the period from April to October, extend to covering air-conditioning, cooking, production of hot water, lighting and electricity for various operations. These energy requirements cause a summer peak of electricity consumption in many areas, and in case of autonomous electricity grids of the islands, where the main bulk of the tourist industry is located, the immediate effect is a destabilisation of the power system. By means of a targeted awareness campaign, it is intended to help and support the introduction of renewable energies technologies in the tourist industry in order to stimulate the substitution of conventional energy withresourcese resourses.

Description of work
The activity will be structed in two different tasks:

  • Surtouristthe toutist industry perspective to potential application of renewable energy technologies. In this phase specific information will be collected and on the basis of collected information a brief will be prepared containing also a firecommendationsomendations for the type of renewable energy source suitable for the analysed cases.
  • "Intersolarcenter" carried out short analysis of tourist sector of South Russia and made the references due RES application.
