Objectives
- to disseminate information about possibilities of renewable energy for clean energy supply
- to make wide public familiar with terminology of RES
- to produce renewable energy handbook - layman's guide to renewables (in English)
- to translate the handbook to Spanish, Russian and Chinese languages
Description of work
Latest resolutions of UN recognize renewable energy as base for sustainable development. Also, resolutions and programs of EC emphasize the importance of spreading information about possibilities of renewable energy sources (RES) for clean energy supply.
In 90-th World Solar Commission (WSC) have prepared draft of Illustrated Dictionary-handbook on renewable energy (DH). This work is not completed yet. General Secretary of the WSC addressed to Intersolarcenter asking to continue this work and find ways and possibilities to translate this DH to world's main languages - Russian, Spanish and Chinese. Keeping in mind that EC cooperates with UN and WSC in the field of promoting of RES, the preparation and printing of this DH is suggested as OPET action. This DH will help to explain wide public how RES can solve problems of energy supply, climate change and sustainable development. The DH describes in popular form the possibilities of various RES and where and how they can be used. The terminology of RES is explained in details and this will help people to be familiar with renewable energy and use the RE installations widely. The illustrated dictionary-handbook includes the main concepts of the renewable energy sources and technologies:
- Solar energy
- Wind energy
- Biomass
- Ocean energy
- Hydropower (in particular mini hydropower)
- Geothermal energy
- Financial and ecological aspects of RES implementation
- Other information
Each section is illustrated with schemes and tables. This dictionary-handbook consists of 12 parts with enclosures. The result of this project was preparation of e-version of dictionary-handbook in Russian and glossary in Armenia, Georgian and Azerbaijani languages. Unfortunately, Spanish and Chinese versions were not prepared due to shortage of financing.
