World wind energy market 2005
Another record year was registered by the global wind energy sector in 2005. Total installed capacity in the world grew by 25%. New capacity installed in 2005 was 43% greater than that of 2004. Review of basic world market parameters is given. Expert estimations on inhibitory factors acting against market development are summarized.
A new energy policy would re-ignite Europe
Europe development is threatened now with fossil fuel price growth, potential fossil fuel exporting countries instability, mounting climate change. All this calls Europe for development of unified energy policy which should be more stable and nature friendly. Europe now is a world leader in RE resources utilization, but RE energy share on market is still rather small and there is a great growth potential. European authorities did not yet agree upon any common policy. There is a kind of conflict between European Parliament, which is more radical and European Commission which is more conservative. Anyway, reality forces Europe to undertake more active measures.
Offshore wind farms future
Offshore wind farms are considered as most promising for European market despite technological challenges. Today, onshore expansion potential is not yet completely exhausted so shift to offshore is delayed. Preferable technologies for offshore wind farms are discussed in the article together with the market prospects.
Wind energy in Russia: history, current state and prospecs
Wind energy was very widely used in USSR in first half of XX century. History of Russian wind energy is stated. Reasons for wind energy revival are discussed, methods of stimulation are suggested. Demand estimation for wind farms is given, including small-scale wind generators. Domestic wind energy equipment manufacturers are listed.
News
A concept of European offshore electrical net was supposed in 2005. It would be used both to integrate European national energy infrastructures and to deliver offshore wind farm produced electricity to consumers. Developing offshore electrical net implies introduction of about 10GW offshore wind farm capacity.
French government reinforces offshore wind energy support. Planned tariff decrease was denied. Fixed tariff will be suggested to all new offshore wind developers.
Great Britain published energy policy review. The main national goals of energy policy are energy efficiency, extension of renewable energy financial support, and introduction of new nuclear power plants.
Sweden is going to reject fossil fuels after 2020. Financial measures are discussed, including tax lightening for any RE use and further research investment.
One more offshore wind farm started up in England near Barrow. Total installed capacity of the farm is 90MW. It was developed with joint venture of DONG and CENTRIA.
Enercon extended maximum single turbine installed capacity to 6MW which is the world record. Three new 6MW turbines have recently started their operation in Germany.
