Photovoltaics: a potential 5,4 GWp annual market in 2010

With global market growths over 30% in the last 6 years, the photovoltaic industry is one of the fastest growing sectors. The solar boom has started and many companies are taking the challenge to invest in the business with successful expectations. On a global level, the projections of European Photovoltaic Industry Association anticipate that the annual photovoltaic market could reach 5,4 GWp in 2010. The projections of this scenario are ambitious.

Photovoltaic systems on the base of heterostructures

The article discusses wide possibilities and huge potential for application of photovoltaic systems on the base of heterostructures (Al-Ga-As). Currently the photovoltaic cells with efficiency up to 30% are created. Cost of these systems will decrease in nearest future.

Economically efficient photovoltaic industry in Russia

At present share of the Russian PV production at the global market is less than 1%. Targets set in the Energy Strategy of Russia don’t stimulate the development of the PV industry in the country. However, Russia has very good preconditions for rapid growth of PV production. Russian PV plants produce world level PV cells and modules. Very promising is technology for chlorine-free solar grade silicon production. Without introducing of stimulation mechanisms for RE development on Federal level it is impossible to expect remarkable growth of Russian PV industry.

The article discusses possibilities of photovoltaic systems for ensuring power supply of small remote consumers in Russia. Main components and parameters of PV systems are described. Characteristics of PV modules produced in Russia are presented.

PV modules market 2006

This article reviews the situation with photovoltaic modules production in the world in 2005. Despite on silicon shortage, volumes of PV production grew significantly during last years and reached 1.8 GWp in 2005. Also, in the article there is short review on PV modules types currently produced by largest manufacturers.
